Girl Scouts use their brain potential to influence media

Unrealistic body images in the media can have a serious effect on the younger generation's personal development, as ideals of ultra-thin, airbrushed models depict an unhealthy goal that can harm self-esteem and influence negative lifestyle habits.

As a result, the Girl Scouts of the USA have teamed up with the American Medical Association to help encourage more realistic images in the media.

"Through the Girl Scouts' Healthy Media: Commission for Positive Images of Women and Girls, we are working with the advertising industry and other media leaders to promote images on screen and in print that we want our girls to emulate in real life," said Girl Scouts CEO Kathy Cloninger.

Author and philosopher Ilchi Lee believes that personal development is key in any individual's life. He created a version of Dahn Yoga especially for children so that they can reach their true potential and lead healthy, full lives. The practice may help kids build self esteem and fulfillment as they strengthen their bodies and minds.
